2024 marks the 25th anniversary of Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup saving the city of Townsville. This makes it an ideal time for the trio to return to comics.
“I have to say, I am a very big fan of The Powerpuff Girls,” notes Kelly Thompson. “So much so that when I was young — just out of art school — I even wrote a few short stories and began to storyboard them in hopes I could get a job on the show! So this just feels… exactly right. I was over the moon to get the offer.”
Thompson promises that the new series, much like the original Powerpuff Girls cartoons by Craig McCracken, will be aimed at both younger and older audiences. The comic will contain the same life lessons for children, as well as self-aware genre jokes for the parents.
